Maurice Sendak

Every time I visited my grandma’s house as a young child I would beg and beg for her to read me the little Pierre book. Pierre: a cautionary tale is about a little boy who doesn’t care about anything.

Now, as the night began to fall

a hungry lion paid a call.

He looked Pierre right in the eye

and asked him if he’d like to die,

Pierre said, “I don’t care!”

As a child with a complex life and lots of heartache Sendak’s stories felt real and spoke to me in a way no other books did. Maurice Sendak is, in my opinion, the greatest children’s book writer/illustrator of all time.

R.I.P. Maurice and thank you for your stories!!!

Finally! The next installment of viking stories with Brittany!!!Image

So after being ordered to fix the problem with Sif, Loki headed down to speak to the dwarves.

Normal the dwarves are pretty reticent to help people out but Loki sweet talked them into making Sif some new hair.

The Dwarves hammered pure gold into fine threads.

I am pretty amazed by how they were able to make gold all soft and wonderful like hair! If I ever need a wig I am totally commissioning the dwarves…

Loki went back to Asgard and presented the wonderful hair to Sif. Because she now had crazy shiny amazing hair she let the whole thing slide

Also Loki had gotten the dwarves to make a magic spear for Odin and a magic boat for Thor.

Thor’s boat can fit in his pocket but when he needs to use it, it grows as big as he needs it to be.  Also this boat can fly in the sky. In my opinion This was by far the most awesome gift. It was probably a good move on  Loki’s part to give the best thing to Thor because Thor has a serious anger problem. Personally I would never want to be on Thor’s bad side

Early American

I have fantastic news! The above illustration has been selected to be part of the Society of Illustrators student show!

This was part of a series I did to illustrate a short story about pre-Colombian people of the Americas.

In this illustration the girls are harvesting maple.

Bellow are the other illustrations in the series:

Sif’s golden hair part 1

Odin was chilling in Valhalla. His ravens, Huginn and Muninn, reported to him that it had been a pretty chill day in Midgard (Midgard is where the normal humans live)

My general feelings about Odin:

He sacrificed one of his eyes for The Wisdom of the Ages and I can totally respect that. He seems a lot more mature that Zeus and is much more respectful of the ladies.

Just when Odin thought that he would finally get a relaxing night,  he the great doors of Valhalla burst open and in came Thor and his wife Sif in Thor’s goat cart!

“Loki Cut off my beautiful hair!!!!!” Shrieked Sif, as she threw back her hood to reveal her mangled tresses. “He must be punished!!!”

Loki was brought to Valhalla to be judged by the Aesir. It was totally Obvious that he was guilty! Just look at him! Besides, every time anything naughty happened it was always Loki’s doing. “You better fix this!” Said Odin. (I believe that Odin was probably a little amused though)

My general feelings about Loki:

LOL! He is my favorite. Much of the time i’m not a huge fan of the Aesir, so it is nice to see them get punked every now and again. Sometimes Loki does some legitimately horrible things though. He is totally a sociopath. He is actually one of the Jotun(giants) who are the enemies of the Aesir(gods).

From my understanding Odin met Loki and was all like “Hey Loki! I can’t believe your a Jotun! Your way more smart and good looking than the other Jotun! Lets be blood brothers and you can come live with me up in Asgard!”

Odin would one day regret this decision.

Stay tuned for the next installment of the story which is coming soon!!
